MARY'S PHOTOS
The following are photos Mary took the day before and the day of her first attempt to summit Mount Hood, as well as photos taken a few years later while she was descending it after a successful venture.
MOUNT ST. HELEN
Mary learned Friday that the guided Mount Hood climb was cancelled. To see if she was prepared to climb Mount Hood, early Saturday morning, she drove up and spent some time hiking around on Mount St. Helen.
ON THE WAY UP TO "HOOD"
After leaving Mount St. Helen, Mary headed back down to Oregon. She ran a few errands in preparation for climbing Mount Hood. Then as the sun was setting, she drove to Timberline Ski Area parking lot, where she stopped to get some sleep before climbing.
LOOKING UP MOUNT HOOD
Saturday morning, Mary took this photo toward the beginning of her attempt to climb Mount Hood (this photo is also in the book).
VIEW FROM MOUNT HOOD
This is a photo taken in the same spot, but looking south and down from Mount Hood (Mount Jefferson is in the distance).
FUMAROLES
A little further down the mountain, that same morning after summiting, Mary and Ben took this photo of some fumaroles (Hot Rocks?).
GLACIER CROSSING
Some years later, this time climbing with a partner (her husband, Ben), Mary summited Mount Hood. This photo is take from Coleman Glacier on their way back down the mountain. White River Canyon can be seen below and to the right of Crater Rock (on the left). Again, you can see Mount Jefferson in the background.
